Geneva Pate James was born on December 26, 1910 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Jessie and Ada Pate. She attended Rowan and Davie County Public Schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Rocky Creek AME Methodist Church in Olin, NC, before joining Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Mocksville in 1956. She was the organizer and President of the Best Yet Club and served faithfully for over forty-five years. She was also a member of the Senior Missionary Circle and served as Secretary for Sunday School Class Number Two for several years. She was a retired Domestic Worker. Preceding her in death were ten siblings, Walter Pate, Mamie Pate, Beatrice Pate Hill, Bunia Pate Studevent, Goldia Pate Gilmer, Helen Luvina Pate, Jessie Pate, Turner Pate, Birder Pate, and William Clement. She was married to the late Luther James, who also preceded her in death. To this union one son was born. She was in Hospice Care at the Autumn Care Nursing Home in Mocksville before her death at the Davie Regional Hospital in Statesville, NC on March 17, 2010. She leaves to cherish her loving memory one son, Dennis (Saundra) James of Mocksville, NC; one brother, George Clement of Mocksville, NC; two grandchildren, Jasmine James of Winston-Salem, NC and Thometrius James of High Point, NC; two great-grandchildren, Jessica James of High Point, NC and Brandon Horton of Winston-Salem, NC; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, including a special friend, Mrs. Edna Mason Allen of Greensboro, NC.
