Lillie Mae Coulter

March 28, 1928 ~ February 8, 2015 (age 86)

Obituary

Lillie Mae Jones Coulter was born on March 28, 1928 in South Carolina to Johnnie Jones and Katie Williams Jones. She departed this life on February 8, 2015 at Wellington Oaks Assisted Living in Greensboro, North Carolina. Lillie Mae (who preferred to be called Mae) was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and her husband, Rev. John E. Coulter Sr. She was a life-long member of Coulter's Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a proud member of the gospel choir, missionary and deaconess board. Lille Mae loved gardening; particularly flowers and vegetables. It was not uncommon to often find her up early working in the yard. She loved riding anywhere, but especially to the mountains. One only had to mention the word "go" and she was at the door with her purse ready to go. She loved going to yard sales and flea markets, and was a collector of antiques. She loved her family and often gave her children and grandchildren nick names, such as (J.E., COOKIE, and BUB) as she herself was affectionately called MAW-MAW. After the death of her late husband, she started attending the Nutrition site for the elderly in Catawba, NC. She loved helping in the kitchen and serving the participants. It was at this site that she learned to crochet and knit, resulting in her making several beautiful items. And let's not forget she loved dogs; there was one in particular, "Pepper," that she cherished dearly. He was truly a good companion to her and they often seemed inseparable at times. She leaves to cherish precious memories her son, John Coulter, Jr. (Yvonne) of Baltimore, MD; two daughters, Lillie C. Wright of Raleigh, NC and Evette Jordon (Larry) of Greensboro, NC; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Reid, Elizabeth Shuford, Orphelia Coulter, and Carrie Lee Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
