Obituary

Lucille Leach Geter was born in Rowan County on November 12, 1931, daughter of the late Baxter and Lurlie Leach. Lucille was reared by her step-mother, Lillian Flint Leach. She attended Rowan and Davie County Schools. At an early age she joined New Jerusalem Holiness Church, and later joined Freedom Mission (now Freedom United Church of God). She served as the church secretary, Deaconess, choir member, and usher. She also worked in the kitchen and will be remembered for the delicious cakes she made. She was married to Benjamin Geter for more than fifty years, and was a loving mother to two daughters. She received certification in Nursing Assistant and Home Care for the Aged at Davidson County Community College in Lexington, NC. For more than sixty-five years, she worked in the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stanback, Sr., and was currently employed by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stanback, Jr. Lucille loved to garden and bake cakes, and was a member of the Professional Women's Club. Lucille was instrumental in the continuation of the Leach-Jones Family Reunion since its inception nine years ago. She served as President and her most recent position was advisor to assist the younger generation in carrying on the legacy of the reunion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Geter, in March of 2005. On Thursday, November 17, 2016, she died in Rowan Regional Hospital following a period of declining health, and seriously ill for eleven days. She is survived by two daughters, Dianne (Michael) Brawley of Mt. Ulla, NC, and Tonie G. Jones of Salisbury; three brothers, John (Carmen) Leach of Woodleaf, Mack A. (Dena) Leach, and Baxter Leach both of Salisbury; seven sisters, Willie Mae Lucky of New Jersey, Lillian Summers, Barbara Hairston, and Priscilla Leach all of Salisbury, Helen Leach of Woodleaf, Ada (Norman) Morrison of Statesville, Patricia Funderburk of China Grove; two grandchildren, Darius Geter, whom she raised, and TeYonia (Norris) White; two great-grandchildren, Jayla and Zoey Geter; two God-sons, Antenelli (Tammy) Kesler and Maurice Wallace; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
