Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Pulliam Mayfield was born in Davie County on August 21, 1941, daughter of the late Bertha Pulliam. She graduated from Davie High School in 1959 and attended Rowan Technical Community College. She was a seamstress for several years at Monleigh Garment and Jockey. She traveled often with her daughter and son-in-law, Cecilia and Phil Foster. She loved life and enjoyed bingo, sewing, playing cards and playing with her grandchildren. She dearly loved spending time with her twin sister, Ruby Peterson, and her friends Rose Martin, Lillie Johnson, and Nellie Foster. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Thomas Mayfield, Jr., and her mother, Bertha P. Wilson. On Sunday, February 6, 2011, she died peacefully in her sleep after a prolonged illness. She is survived by one daughter, Cecilia (Phil) Foster of Sumter, S.C.; two brothers, James Phillip (Wanda) Clement of Mocksville, and James Gilbert (Linda "PeeWee") Wilson of Mocksville; a twin sister, Ruby Peterson of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Yolanda Foster, Phillip (Gloria) Foster, and Shaunda Foster; her partner, Cleotus Boston; several other relatives and friends.
