Robert "Bob" Michael Cook

May 16, 1967 ~ January 31, 2020 (age 52)

Robert “Bob” Michael Cook, 52, of Mocksville, went home to be with his beloved Savior on January 31, 2020.  He was surrounded by his family as he walked the last mile of his earthly journey and into the presence of the God he had so faithfully served.  His heavenly reunion included grandparents, Vernon and Beulah Lockhart Lampert and Carroll and Blanche Faw Cook.

Bob was born to Rev. Raymond Eugene and Priscilla Lampert Cook on May 16, 1967, in Beckley, WV.  He was called into ministry and answered God’s call to serve.  He was educated for ministry at Mid America Christian University in Oklahoma City, OK. A youth/music ministry internship brought him to North Carolina, where he met and married the love of his life, Melanie Forbes Cook.  For 25 years, Bob and Melanie walked their journey together.  They walked the last steps of their earthly journey as Melanie held his hand, while the snow fell outside.

Together, Bob and Melanie ministered to countless students, serving as youth/children’s camp directors with Carolina Ministries.  Bob’s ministry as Youth Pastor included service in High Point, Hickory, Charlotte, Spruce Pine, and Archdale.  He also served as the lead pastor for the Carolina Ministries Student Leadership Team.  Bob was absolutely passionate about helping students in their journey with Jesus and he faithfully served out that call.

After retiring from student ministry, Bob took a position as a 911 Telecommunicator.  He loved his work with both Davie and Iredell County 911 and especially drew fulfillment from talking with those contemplating suicide, and helping to lead them away from that choice.  In many ways, his ministry extended to his work at 911 as he literally worked to save lives.

Left to cherish his memory, and walk in his legacy, are his wife, Melanie; his son/ballgame-watching-partner/friend, Jonathan Michael; and his “daddy’s girl,” Carrie Elizabeth, all of the home; two more precious adopted daughters, Heather Webb (Chris) and Katelin Cook, who reside in Louisville, KY.  In addition, Bob and Melanie had been foster parents to eight more sweet children, who needed a safe place to call “home” for a while.

Bob is also survived by his parents, Gene and Priscilla Cook of Rupert, WV; one brother, Tim Cook (Gwen) of Trinity; father and mother-in-law, Gary and Joan Forbes; two brothers-in-law, Greg (Patti) Forbes and Derick (Katie) Forbes, all of Mocksville.  Bob loved his role as “Uncle Bob” to Jake and Cole Cook and Lauren, Grayson, Annette and Marion Forbes.  He is also survived by aunts, Judy Lampert Wingler (Gary) of Bluefield, WV and Winnie Wyatt Rushbrook (Jerry) of Wilkesboro; as well as cousins, Jody, Melissa, Christy, Angie, Ramona, Rebecca, Cecilia, Jane and Judy.  Bob also leaves behind a large extended family, who loved him deeply.

He had a larger-than-life personality, booming singing voice, and a patience and love for people.  Bob never met a stranger and left few people who did not call him friend.  He leaves behind his 911 family in Davie, Iredell and Surry Counties, the many church league softball players that he coached over the years, countless students and people that he ministered to, and many dear friends.  Faith, family and friends were his passion and he served all well with a fiercely devoted love.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 6, at Rescue House Church.  A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, February 7, at Farmington Community Cemetery.  Pastor friends, Stan Riddle and Kevin Cummins will officiate the service.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, at Lambert Graham Funeral Home.
